About Iyengar Yoga
Iyengar Yoga is named after Mr BKS Iyengar who popularized yoga in the west through his book Light on Yoga.
Iyengar yoga is best known for its use of props. Props such as blocks, belts or bolsters are used to help to stretch, strengthen or improve body alignment.
It helps to sustain the practice of asanas (postures) for longer duration and conserves energy. The yoga asana practiced with props is unique in that it is the only form of exercise which allows both action and relaxation simultaneously.
The other distinguishing feature of Iyengar yoga is its emphasis on alignment, thus the practice of Iyengar yoga will often result in eliminating aches and pains and improve posture.
